A more coherent entry than the one I made last night:

This was the first presidential election I've ever voted in. I knew before the primary that no matter who became the Democratic candidate, that I would vote for them before I would vote for a Republican. I spent the last few weeks hoping that the country would prove itself above choosing a president based on his race, and I am shocked to see that there was such a vast acceptance of that. I won't say that it proves there's true racial equality, but there will always be jackasses to treat other people like less for SOME reason or another.

I voted for Obama yesterday, and while I know I'll never have children, I'll remember my whole life that I voted for our first black president. I'll remember checking the BBC website every five minutes, breathless with anticipation, and turning on the television for the first time since I got my own place in March, just to have the news' count in the background. Last night I was ecstatic, to say the least, and today I wrote an absolutely cheesy little poem to commemorate the event.

And yes, it is an event.

THE FATE OF '08

I watched the numbers stagger unevenly higher
My breath caught in my chest
Biting my lip and waiting to know
If soon we'd hear the best

In leaps and bounds the votes collected
From states both north and south
Cheers abounded from every quarter
From every united mouth.

Finally the confetti flew
Sky-high for all to see
To make a new land for me and you
During Obama's presidency~!
